Paragliding is an adventure sport, not a risk-free sightseeing ride. The mountain environment and changing weather make operational judgement important. No checklist can guarantee a safe flight, but asking clear questions can help you make a more informed decision.
Check the operator and pilot
Ask to see current registration, permits or credentials required by the relevant authorities, and confirm the name of the operator responsible for your booking. Do not rely only on social media popularity, a low price or a verbal assurance. If information is unclear, pause the booking and verify it with an appropriate local or official source.
Look for a proper briefing
Before take-off, you should receive understandable instructions about the launch, your position during flight, landing, and what to do if the pilot gives a command. You should have an opportunity to ask questions. A rushed briefing or pressure to launch despite uncertainty is a reason to stop and clarify.
Ask about equipment checks
Ask how the harness, helmet, glider and other relevant equipment are inspected and prepared. The equipment should be appropriate for the activity and fit correctly. Do not handle lines or equipment unless instructed by the pilot.
Respect weather decisions
Conditions can change quickly in mountain terrain. Wind, cloud, visibility, rain and other local factors can make a flight unsuitable. A responsible operator may delay, change or cancel a flight. Do not pressure a pilot to fly because you have travelled far, paid in advance or are short on time.
Be honest about your suitability
Share relevant medical, mobility and other information requested by the operator. Follow any stated age, weight or health restrictions and ask if you are unsure. Never hide information to secure a flight.
Read the booking terms
- Confirm what the quoted price includes.
- Ask how transport to the take-off point is arranged.
- Read cancellation, postponement, refund and rescheduling terms.
- Clarify what happens if the flight duration or route changes.
- Keep the operator’s contact details and booking confirmation.
Red flags
Be cautious if someone refuses to answer basic safety questions, cannot explain cancellation terms, skips the briefing, or insists that weather is always suitable. No operator can honestly promise that a flight will happen in every condition.
Choose clear communication and conservative decisions over a bargain or a guaranteed flight claim. This article is general travel information and does not replace official rules, a pilot’s briefing or professional safety advice.
